Marathon Stories

Some of the stories from the 2016 Running Festival

There were many fantastic stories behind the faces of the people who participated in the WIN Network Traralgon Marathon and Running Festival 2016.  Some were taking on the 10kms for the first time either running or walking while others were seasoned campaigners coming back and creating records.  Many were locals and some were even from overseas and around Australia.

The changes to the course and venue proved popular with record entries in both the half and full marathon distances.  NOTE: stories are as they were reflected prior to the 2016 event and have not yet been updated for the 2017 event.

What Brings Darlene and George Here?
Darlene says, “We have both been running for 10 years.  Running has brought us many rewards… physical fitness & mental strength, but more importantly, a positive attitude, clarity of the mind, and peace of the heart. Our love for the sport has unfolded with many adventures of short- (5Ks, 10Ks) to mid- (half-marathons) to long (marathons) and ultra- distances (50Ks, 50-milers, 100Ks & even an attempt at a 100-miler)!!”

Darlene has done 45 marathons and George 50 and decided to enter Traralgon for a few different reasons:   “George’s son is performing at the Sydney opera house, he & his band, Deafheaven, are touring in Australia.  We want to complete a marathon on all 7 continents and Australia is a beautiful place to visit & what better adventure than to run the oldest marathon?!”

While we are there we plan to explore Sydney & Melbourne the cities; beaches, mountains, 12 apostles; see the native animals…as much as possible!! And we welcome any suggestions, as this will be our first visit. We are excitedly looking forward to it!!
